Widgets can be used in any Cadvance drawing to manage a variety of tasks. Widgets can provide new kinds of objects that are not available in the standard palette of draw items. Most are written to do specific tasks like area calculations or drawing 3D text. They can react to their surroundings and are refreshed every time a redraw is invoked.

Based on Cadvance's object technology, these modular plug-in components are only loaded into memory when a drawing contains them.

Cadvance Widget Factories are used to make and insert them into Cadvance drawings. Editing is accomplished using Widget Wizards.

Custom widgets can be created using application development environments like Microsoft Visual Studio using C and Borland Delphi DLL's.
